One of the best things about our digital reading log has been seeing all of the different places reading happens. Spoiler alert – it’s everywhere. Below we share some of our favourite places for reading.
Out and about
“In true Billy style, he brought this book to the zoo with us. He read out jokes to us on the way in the car and also when we were walking around and also when we stopped to sit on a bench to eat some chips. The friends and children that we went with enjoyed listening to the jokes and said he had great delivery.” – Billy’s mum
“We attended Truckfest, Cara showed her family how well she’s doing with her reading by reading lots of the truck names and business names” – Cara’s parent
In the car or on the bus
A big surprise for us was just how many of the photos uploaded to our platform are of children reading in cars! It’s a great way to fit reading into a busy schedule
“Kayla got this book from the library and read some on the bus to her nanny’s then again in Nanny’s garden and then some more at bedtime.” – Kayla’s parent
“Izzie read in the car to her little brother on the way to school. Well done Izzie.” – Izzie’s dad
“Diego came out of school and couldn’t wait to finish the book. He read the book all the way to the dentist in the car.” – Diego’s mum
At the library
A great chance to try out different books and find something new.
“Elsie enjoys reading lots of different baby books to her baby sis at the library.” – Elsie’s parent
“Josh chose this book at the library and we love reading it. We enjoy the facts under all the lift flaps and Josh has a very special interest in wild weather especially tornados!” – Josh’s parent
“We went for a trip to the library, Jess wanted to take a book out but then sit and read a book together too. It was a very nice story and had lots of animals that Jess did very well at reading all the names of too.” – Jess’s mum
To a pet
This can be a great way to encourage children to read out loud! We even have one partner school where children get to read to the school dog as a reward.
“Brilliant reading well done! Isaac really read with enthusiasm. Isaac said he was reading to our dog as well as me!” – Isaac’s mum
“Brilliant reading, she read out loud and read to our dog (Teddy), no helped need. Freya you are fantastic at reading!” – Freya’s parent
At the park
“Today Chelsie read the book next to her self made camp fire at the park. She read clearly and fluently” – Chelsie’s parent
“Levi enjoyed reading the letters and words to us at the park. He was able to read “cat” and “dog” and was just unsure about the b in rabbit.” – Levi’s mum
“We went to the park after school and Elliot wanted to show me his new book so he sat and read it in the sunshine.” – Elliot’s parent
“Mina read the rules at the entrance to the park. We spoke about why the rules are in place and how they keep people safe.” – Mina’s parent
