In this month’s Staff Spotlight we speak to Jovan, our Operations Coordinator.
Tell us a bit about what you did before joining Learning with Parents
I spent the last 7 years in the domestic abuse sector at the national charity, SafeLives. I worked closely with over 20 police forces embedding a cultural change programme called DA Matters. The programme aims to transform the response to domestic abuse, ensuring the voice of the victim is placed at the centre, and controlling and coercive behaviour is better understood.
In my most recent role, I managed projects which focused on empowering children and young people through meaningful co-creation – making sure that they had tailored resources, interventions and support to be able to reach their potential.
What first drew you to Learning with Parents?
Learning with Parent’s vision that every child is supported at home to fulfil their potential drew me in. It aligned beautifully with the aims of the children and young people’s projects I had been working on and this really resonated with me professionally and personally.
I was also struck by the statement that by age 11, a disadvantaged child is on average nine months behind their richer peers in English and Maths. Playing a role in social change is important to me so it felt like a good fit.
What’s the day-to-day of your role like?
As Operations Coordinator, my role is very varied as I wear a lot of different hats – I support the smooth running of our core functions which include Finance, HR and general admin support for whichever team needs me. I could be completing the monthly financial reconciliation, supporting with the onboarding of new team members or booking in meetings for the CEO.
What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
Our office move! I have been tasked with finding Learning with Parents a new home in Bristol. It has been great trying to find us a space where we can settle and can really make our own.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Learning with Parents?
It is fantastic that the organisation actually lives its values. They are not just words for the website, they come through in our day-to-day way of working.
