In this month’s Staff Spotlight we speak to Jess, our School Partnership Manager…
Tell us a bit about what you did before joining Learning with Parents
I started my career as a teacher, teaching History at a secondary school in London. But before joining Learning with Parents I worked in various partnership account roles, from charities to government, but always with a focus on addressing social inequality through education projects.
What first drew you to Learning with Parents?
I connected with the charity’s vision and I really liked the focal point of school partnerships being centered on supporting schools to engage with their families. It was a perfect combination of using the partnership management skills I had gained whilst working with schools on a topic I feel passionate about.
What’s the day-to-day of your role like?
I support schools with all aspects of the Learning with Parents programme. Right now I am helping schools to launch our Maths and English programme and our digital reading log. I spend lots of time talking to schools, understanding what they want to get from the programme and helping them to get set up. I also deliver teacher training sessions so staff are confident in using our programmes.
As the year goes on, I’ll be looking at each school’s engagement data and talking to schools about how to maximise the programme as well as learning and sharing insights on how to drive and maintain parental engagement.
What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
I’m excited to be working on our new financial literacy programme, Money Skills and supporting our schools to pilot the programme. Money Skills is designed to give children the knowledge, skills and experiences that enable them to manage their own money in the future. It’s exciting to be trying something new with our schools and learning from their experience.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Learning with Parents?
The team! It’s great working with such inspiring and supportive people. I also love working with our partner schools and hearing how our programmes are helping to support families to engage with their child’s learning at home.
