Parent Ping
- The team behind Teacher Tapp are developing Parent Ping, an app which will collect data from parents of all backgrounds on their views and experiences.
- Parent Ping will be UK wide and will target parents with children aged 2-19.
- Users will be asked between 2 and 6 questions every day, 7 days a week.
- Data will be gathered on parent age, ethnicity, region, and socio-economic status,
allowing us to gather data on variations within these groups. - Parent Ping would like the following support from the organisations in the Forum:
- Support in recruiting users
- Support in writing questions
- Support in signposting tips
- Support in recruiting users
Discussion 1 – Parent Ping
What opportunities can you see for Parent Ping and us/your organisation?
What potential is there for Parent Ping to be useful in us collaborating in this space?
- It was agreed that this is an exciting opportunity that could have strong potential impact on both the work of the Forum and of individual organisations.
- It is crucial that parents of all backgrounds are represented.
- The app could potentially engage communities which are typically harder to reach.
- Members recommended including parents from the 0-2 age group, as this is a critical period of development.
Discussion 2 - Research
We want to support organisations to be effective through high quality research. Which, if any, of the following would add the most value to your organisation?
- Searchable database of disadvantage-specific research
- Summary of research aimed at organisations
- Guidance with programme evaluation
- A searchable database would be useful, especially if the tags were highly specific and allowed users to find the most relevant research.
- It was noted that building such a database would be a mammoth task.
- Summaries would be useful to provide research in a more digestible form.
Discussion 3 – Parental Engagement Forum Structure
Do you/your organisation have interest in becoming a more formal part of the parent engagement forum?
- Formalising membership of the group would enable us to pursue opportunities, such as working with Parent Ping, more effectively.
- As we become a more formal group, due diligence becomes more important.
- It’s important to include organisations from all four nations – we need to identify
and fill any gaps in the different organisations represented.
